Pilots at PHI Health are the skilled aviators who bring our life-saving missions to life, delivering critical care with speed, precision, and unwavering commitment. As a PHI Health Pilot, you’ll be at the helm of our state-of-the-art aircraft, playing a crucial role in our emergency medical services and making a real impact from the cockpit.

Our Pilots operate sophisticated helicopters in Helicopter Air Ambulance (HAA) operations, navigating challenging conditions with expertise. You’ll be part of a 24-hour operation, conducting both day and night flights, often using advanced systems like SPIFR (Single Pilot Instrument Flight Rules) and NVG (Night Vision Goggles).

Beyond flying, PHI Health Pilots are integral members of our community outreach programs and actively support our Safety Management System and Destination Zero initiatives. You’ll work closely with both internal and external customers, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable service while adhering to PHI Air Medical policies.

At PHI Air Medical, our Pilots must have:

  • Qualified on the VE7A certificate
  • Commercial and Instrument Helicopter Ratings (ATP Required to be obtained within 12 months of job start)
  • First Class Medical
  • CAMTS Requirement // 2,000 Total Hours // 1,500 Hours Helicopter // 1,000 Hours PIC Helicopters // 500 Hours Turbine Helicopters // 100 Hours in Unaided Night Operations or 50 Hours Unaided and 100 Hours Night Vision Goggles (NVG) // 100 Hours Instrument (Actual & Hood)
  • Helicopter candidates must meet 250 pounds body weight for single and twin engine helicopter
  • Strong Communication, Internal and External Customer Service Skills
  • Interview and acceptance by customer/PHI management
  • Must be able to pass pre-placement physical exam including functional capacity exam (strength and flexibility assessment, lift 100 pounds to assist in the loading and unloading of patients and equipment.), drug screening and background screen
  • Demonstrated Internal and External Customer Service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pilot Salary Range & Benefits

The salary range for our Pilots is based on region, flight time, years of EMS experience, and hours with equipment and aircraft specific to the bases.
